4 Ways Water Can Help You Lose Weight

You’ve tried the juices, experimented with diets, cut out the carbs, but you want to take your diet further. Instead of spending money on expensive weight loss plans, turn your attention to the tap – yes, you read that correctly.

Water is an amazing and often underrated tool to aid your weight loss goals. I’m aware that you already know how good water is for you, but how much are you using that to your advantage? Maybe you don’t really believe the hype because really, can water actually help you lose weight? The short answer, yes and we’ll explain why.

1. Increases metabolism

Drinking water gets your body to work and burns calories just to process what’s coming in. It’s especially effective if you opt for an ice cold serving as the body has to work extra hard to regulate the temperature and burns more calories.

A study published in The Journal of Endocrinology & Metabolism found that when healthy men and women drank 16 ounces of water, there metabolic rate spiked by 30%. Researchers concluded that upping your water intake by around six eight-ounce glasses per day would increase your daily caloric burn by around 200 calories.

2. Prevents hunger

You may have been told that when you think you’re hungry, you should drink some water instead. No, it’s not an old wife’s tale – it’s true. When you experience those classic signs of hunger, empty stomach, low energy, furious at anyone who comes within a foot of you (just us?), you might actually just be dehydrated.

The best way to test this is to drink some water when you next feel hungry and you might find that your symptoms go away, which will save you on wasted calories.

3. Gets you pumped

Put that pre-workout down. Water is the only thing you really need to smash a workout, or at least that’s what they say. When you are dehydrated, and lose around two percent of your water, your exercise performance suffers.

Avoid this by drink 16 ounces of water before you hit the gym and eight ounces every 30 minutes during your sesh.

4. Helps you cut out other drinks

Although we love a PSL as much as the next person, it’s filled to the brim with sugar (up to 50g!). By reaching for a glass of H2O instead, you will instantly save a ton of calories – and probably a lot of money.
