How To Prevent Your Boobs Getting In The Way Of Your Training

Bouncing boobs aren’t just uncomfortable, they can also cause pains in your head, neck, back and shoulders. Here’s how to fix them.

Compression bras vs. encapsulation bras

Compression bras squash your breasts into your chest, while the encapsulation type contour your curves. A study in Ergonomics tested both for perceived breast movement. The compression bras were favoured while running, but deemed less comfortable for jogging.

Go vertical if you’re heavier set

You’ll usually get two strap options for your girls: vertical or criss-cross. A study in Sports Medicine found large breasted exercisers felt vertical strap orientation was more comfortable. Plus, 70% of participants said the criss-cross bra dug into their traps and pulled on shoulder blades.

Moisture control is a must

Bras that breathe or wick away moisture can reduce chafing, temperature and be more comfy. A study in Textile Research Journal showed that sports bras made from fabrics with dynamic moisture-transfer properties kept breast skin considerably cooler than those that weren’t.

Look for athletic swimwear

It’s obvious why sports bras are essential while running, but how about swimming? A study from the University of Portsmouth showed they prevent breast movement more than traditional one-piece swimsuits and affect how women perform the breast stroke.

The fit is key to success

A bra that’s even a little bit too big will allow too much bounce, but an overly tight one will dig into your skin, so what’s a girl to do? A study in Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport found most of us choose the wrong bra, so do yourself a favour and be professionally fitted.
