How To Increase Your Exercise Motivation

It’s been proven time and time again that exercise can help us to boost our mood and all round emotional wellbeing when incorporating it into our lives. It’s even been recommended by mental health charity Mind to help combat stress, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and even mild depression. But the only way that this can work in your favor is if you remain consistent and dedicate time to your physical activity.

That’s not to say that this works for everyone though. Humans are complexed creatures and no two people are the same, but if you do find that it works for you and your only struggle is getting motivated, then you’re in the right place! Here’s some of our top tips to help you get up and moving.

Create A Routine

One of the most effective ways to stay motivated? Make sure that you’ve got a routine in place and you know exactly what you have planned for the day ahead. This will help you to stop skipping workouts (if you do) and will eliminate any excuse of not having enough time.

Working out at the same time each day will help your body to adjust to it’s routine and thus make it easier to develop it into a habit. According to Healthline.com it can take anywhere between 18 to 254 days to form a new habit from recurring behavior.

Make sure you stick to your routine by prepping before hand. Looking to work out in the morning? Get your gym bag and gym clothes ready the night before and put them somewhere they’re easily accessible. Making sure any chores are done the night before hand is also a great idea, this will assure that you don’t get distracted away from your routine.

Change Your Workouts (Every 4-6 Weeks)

While it’s fun having a new workout routine at the start, you’ll know how easy it is for humans to get bored, and this is no different when it comes to working out in the gym!

Not only is it important so that you don’t get tired of the same routine but it is actually recommended to change your routines every 4-6 weeks and is considered an important factor in muscle adaptation. The human body is very adaptable, and continuously changing your workout like this helps the body to progress further, leading to more and better results.

There are an endless amount of workouts available to you online so you’ll never be short of new intriguing workout ideas!

Set Some Goals (And smash them!)

What better way to inspire yourself to have a target to hit? Knowing that you have an end goal is a great way to feel more motivated. You could aim to complete a marathon or hit a new PB on your lifts, whatever you want your goals to be, set them and go after them like your life depended on it. This will inspire you to get up, get out and exercise and when you start seeing the progress you’re making towards your goal you’ll gain confidence and feel a sense of pride along with it.

Find Something You Love To Do

There are so many different ways to exercise, so finding the one that suits you is important and is possible to find. Remember that working out is not a punishment, it is a reward and a celebration of what your body can do and achieve. Find yourself a way of exercising that ignites something inside of you, that helps to break through mental barriers and leaves you feeling great at the end of it. It’s way easier to stay motivated when you truly enjoy what you’re doing, and what’s more, you don’t need to spend countless hours in the gym. Hopefully you can take something away from this article and utilize it to get better results on your fitness journey, a key aspect to take away from all of this is remembering that health is the real wealth and you will never regret taking care of your body.
